4 Acupressure Points To Boost Immunity

Writer: Bodhi BatistaBodhi Batista

For nearly 5 thousand years Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used by billions of people in the east to maintain their health and to heal from sickness and disease. With all that is happening in the world right now, we need every technique possible to trump the next microscopic invader on the horizon.

Not everyone has access to high-end medical treatments or care facilities, but with a little effort, everyone can learn to use acupressure points to boost immunity.

Where does Qi flow?

The system is simple in its approach, yet amazingly complex in its application. Through thousands of years of application and study, the ancient medical practitioners came to understand that the fascia (which they called sinew) was really the internet of the body.

With trillions of microscopic blood vessels and nerve endings connected to every tissue in the body, the fascia was in effect, the body’s means of communication from top to bottom. In locations where this communication or “energy” flowed in a more organized pattern, they called these conduits “rivers” or “meridians”.

By tapping into these meridians at certain locations (Acupuncture points) they saw that they could stimulate different organs, tissues and fluids of the body and affect the health and functioning of that tissue. The Chinese called that energy “Qi”, Indians called it “Prana”, we in the west refer to it as “electromagnetic energy”.

Whatever you call it, it’s basically the fundamental quantum energy that provides the form and function to all types of physical matter that exist in the body as well as in the rest of the universe.

How do Acupressure points affect the body?

There are 405 different acupuncture points on the body that can be stimulated by the insertion of a needle (Acupuncture) or by finger pressure (acupressure massage called Tuina). Whatever the method used, by stimulating the points along the different meridians, you can encourage the body to move blood and oxygen throughout the tissues.

The more the body moves blood and oxygen fluidly around the body, the more efficiently the entire system operates, maintains itself, and heals.

What internal organs affect your immune system?

When it comes to the body’s ability to fight off disease, the proper functioning of the Spleen and Lung are of greatest importance. Your Spleen has the job of turning the food you eat into the blood and energy necessary to run and maintain your body. It is said that the Spleen Transforms the food you eat(microbiome) into blood and energy, and then Transports that blood and energy to the places it is needed.

What is the Spleen's effect on the immune system?

The Spleen works in tandem with its paired organ “The Stomach” to basically rule over the digestive process. It is that process that basically extracts the forms of energy needed to replenish the different biological demands of the body. The Chinese called this energy “Gu Qi” or food energy.

What is the Lung’s effect on the immune system?

The Lungs take in the air around you (Natural Air Qi or Kong Qi) to oxygenate the blood that moves around your body. It is said that the Lungs help to Disperse fluids to the skin and Descend fluids down to the rest of the body.

By dispersing to the skin, the lungs help to regulate the pores of the skin which is our natural barrier to the outside world. The strength of the Lung determines the strength of our ability to fight off external pathogens (virus, bacteria, fungi). This form of energy is referred to as “Wei Qi or protective energy”.

By using simple finger pressure on specific acupuncture points once a day, you can help your body to strengthen the ability of your spleen and lung to fight off disease and maintain your health and energy. The attached video will show you how to locate and stimulate four main acupressure points to boost immunity. Sp-3, St-36, Lu-9, Ren-17.

Things to remember when using acupressure points to boost immunity:

1. What to use – Gentle massage can be done with either your index finger or thumb.

2. How hard to press – if 10 out of 10 is as hard as you can push 3-4 is more than enough.

3. What side of the body to use – use either side of the body. meridians are bilateral, meaning they run down both sides of the body.

4. How long to massage – One to three minutes of massage is more than enough per point.

5. How often – can be done on a daily basis
